Christchurch Wayfinding

Role:

City-wide wayfinding master planning & design

Client:

CERA / Ōtākaro

Alongside the development of a cohesive set of city-wide principles which give strategic direction and design guidance for multi-modal wayfinding provision, DallowBoss has developed a pedestrian wayfinding strategy and designed a family of elements for Christchurch city centre.

A placement strategy was been devised for the new and future streetscape, while the design cost-efficiently utilises an existing suite of plinth structures (which withstood the earthquakes remarkably well). New skins, with carefully crafted graphics and detailed maps, will provide a consistent language of navigation to the city centre streets.

A selection of background textures, relating to traditional Māori travel and movement, builds on the cultural narrative.
