Auckland Zoo Wayfinding Master Plan

Role:

Wayfinding Strategy

Client:

Auckland Zoo, Auckland Council

As part of Auckland Zoo’s major development programme, the opportunity to integrate a new cohesive wayfinding strategy arose. DallowBoss was commissioned to review wayfinding requirements and opportunities, subsequently preparing a wayfinding Master Plan to cater for immediate needs and future developments.

Using on-site observation, visitor interviews, staff and stakeholder input and the zoo’s Master Development Plan, a comprehensive wayfinding strategy was devised to deliver the numerous layers of information visitor’s expect to encounter.

Guided by the Master Development Plan, a hierarchy of hubs, spines, gateways, loops and decision points were identified to align with the intended journey experience. Appropriate structure types, scales and information formats were proposed for each instance.
